‘Travel agents keen to develop their careers can help their bosses at the same time while studying for professional qualifications.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Diploma in Tourism Marketing offers agents the chance to climb the career ladder, while their increased knowledge and coursework projects bring benefits for employers.

Gary Grieve, founding director of the leading course provider, Capela Travel Training, has worked for Bridge Travel, Saga Holidays and Jetlife. He explains: ‘The course consists of four modules – two on general marketing and two specifically on travel. It generally takes about a year to complete but this is flexible. It can be assessed by exam or assignment – 95% choose assignments which are work-related projects, such as preparing a marketing plan, so they are valuable to employers.’
